COOKIN’ WITH CAPITAL

Sangria

INGREDIENTS

FILLING INGREDIENTS

  • 2-3 oz Brandy
  • 1 bottle Red wine (get inexpensive wine, no need for your Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon, 2019 at $140 a bottle)
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 lemon
  • 12 oz 7-up or other lemon-lime soda or selzer water
  • 1 peach or other seasonal fruit
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • TT sugar
DIRECTIONS

STEP 1

In a large pitcher add the cinnamon stick, the peach, one orange (sliced), and half the lemon (sliced).

STEP 2

Add the brandy over the fruit (for serving with a meal 1-2 oz. will do, for a party add the 3rd oz.) Let the fruit marinate while you juice the other half of the lemon and the second orange.

STEP 3

Add the wine, juices, and soda water and stir.

STEP 4

Taste and add one teaspoon of sugar at a time to your liking. Serve over ice and enjoy.

STORY

The typical Spanish cocktail found all over Spain on a hot summer’s day.  When the heat of the Spanish sun and the humidity of the Mediterranean makes drinking wine unappealing, centuries ago someone created a drink that solves that problem and that has been passed down through the generations.  Sangria combines the love of wine with the refreshing flavors of the summer.
