Sutter Health Eden Medical Center

The new start-of-the-art 130-bed, 6-story, acute care hospital houses a Level 2 trauma emergency department, neuroscience center, surgical and diagnostic imaging, interventional services, intensive care, and women’s services. In addition to the newly constructed hospital, scope of the project also includes the demolition of the existing Eden Medical Center and additional parking once the new hospital is complete.

The HVAC system includes centrifugal chillers with dual compressors with variable frequency drives, chilled water system with dual compressors; underground fuel storage tank providing 30,000 gallons of combined use fuel oil capacity for 48 additional hours of capacity for the generators and 72 hours of capacity for the boilers, and a distributed energy management controls system with central control interface for time controls, monitoring and remote diagnostics.

Integrated Project Delivery team approach was the delivery system of choice, aligning project objectives and logistics with the team throughout all phases of design and construction, fostered by joint management on a consensus basis. In keeping with Lean construction philosophy, the team relied on Autodesk BIM and Navisworks for collaboration and data management to virtually design and construct the hospital, bringing a level of predictability to the project.
