Calaveras County Courthouse

The new 2-story, 45,000 SF courthouse was designed to facilitate court operations by designing courtrooms with the ability to handle a 14 person jury and up to 46 spectators.

Each of the four courtrooms are supported with secure, full inmate access via secured elevators. The first floor will include jury assembly, clerk services, and court offices organized around a natural-light-filled, story entry lobby and great hall while the four courtrooms and associated spaces will be on the second floor.

The building was designed with energy efficient measures including solar panel array on the roof and ice storage system, taking advantage of off-peak power to minimize energy use in the building’s air conditioning system. HVAC design incorporates constant, dedicated primary chiller and boiler pumps, variable secondary chilled water and hot water pumping, variable volume air distribution with low leakage duct system, hydronic chilled water and hot water systems, EMS programming interfacing all central utility plant equipment, pumps, heat exchanges, air handling equipment and associated fans.
