Capital provided mechanical engineering services for the extensive consolidation and renovation of the operating Sutter Medical Center Campus located in downtown Sacramento. Key elements of the project includes 18 new surgery suites, the addition of parking and medical office/out-patient functions, a new lab, new Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the replacement and expansion of the existing energy center, and new pre-operative and post-operative areas. Capital utilized LEAN tools with an IPD contract, including collaboration with subcontractors and owners, as well as extensive utilization of BIM.

Capital provided mechanical engineering design services for the new, underground replacement central plant for the medical center which includes 5,000 tons of chiller capacity, two large-scale cooling tower installations on the roof of the new ambulatory services building, (situated on top of the new plant) and 500 HP dual-fuel steam boiler in a complex multi-phased construction effort to maintain existing services online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Also included is a new emergency power plant. The campus central plant will serve the new Sutter Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the existing renovated Sutter General Hospital, and two other Medical Office Buildings located on adjacent blocks in the downtown Sacramento urban setting.
